DENN: STATE DEMOCRATS ENDORSE IN INSURANCE RACE

Posted: July 15, 2004

The Delaware Democratic Party’s Executive Committee has endorsed Matt Denn as the Democratic Party’s candidate in the September primary for the office of insurance commissioner. The endorsement came after both Denn and his Democratic primary opponent made presentations to the party’s Executive Committee on July 14.

State Democratic Party Chairman Rick Bayard praised Denn following the committee’s vote."The state Executive Committee endorsed Matt Denn because it believes he will be a great representative of the Democratic Party, both as a candidate and as insurance commissioner,” Bayard said. “It was important to me that before asking the Executive Committee for its endorsement, Matt had already obtained the endorsements of a broad range of Democratic elected officials, local Democratic committees and constituency groups that are important members of our Democratic Party."

Denn has also been endorsed by U.S. Sen. Thomas R. Carper, Gov. Ruth Ann Minner, Treasurer Jack Markell, 20 of the 21 Democratic state legislators who have made endorsements in his primary race, and eight of the nine Democratic Wilmington City Council members who have made endorsements.

“I am grateful to the state Democratic Party for putting its faith in me,” Denn said. “I intend to return the insurance commissioner’s office to Democratic hands in November, and to be an insurance commissioner who truly stands up for Delaware’s policyholders.”
